Today I got my membranes stripped,
I've cleaned my house a million times, got the bags packed and I'm ready to go! I'm so anxious to meet this sweet baby girl I can't stand it! I'm really hoping she'll come this weekend, but I know she'll come when the time is right so I just have to be patient now.
I love hearing birthing stories, and all the fun/ crazy adventures women go through during this exciting time! So let's hear it... what put you in Labor? Where were you? What were you doing? What's the best/worst memory you have throughout your pregnancy? I want to hear, do share!
haha. This is too cute!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a story about me - nothing I did induced my kiddos to come out - they had to be dragged out. ha.
But my SIL's SIL (say that three times fast) went into early labor last month on the day that she got a pedicure/massage. Apparently the massage hits some pressure points that helps start labor? I hadn't heard of that - but it definitely got her going - a little early in her case.
Might be more fun than walking around the mall . . . ;)
I mixed a tablespoon of castor oil with a glass of orange juice and drank up with both of my girls. I don't know if it worked or not but I went into labour at 2am the next morning with both! If you're gonna try this, make sure you mix it with OJ or some other drink.. My SIL chugged straight castor oil and it was not pretty! let me just say, both ends, same time and not enough time to get to the bathroom......
ReplyDeleteAlso if that's too much for you, book yourself in to see an acupuncturist. They can trigger a pressure point in your ankle that is supposed to work wonders.
My accupuncturist has offered to do this for me in April when i'm due for my 3rd baby....
FEET MASSAGE OR GET MAD AT SOMETHING, THAT WORKED FOR ME. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOk, you asked for anything! Keep in mind I was 20 at the time...I don't remember my dr telling me I couldn't have sex anymore... soooo hubby and I managed one last time to have sex...when done there was my "mucous plug" on the sheets....ewww...went to sleep, woke up just an hour or so later, felt like I was peeing on myself...was leaking water, called the hospital, went in so they could check me. As the nurse was checking me she basically finished breaking my water, and I had a baby 4 hours later! Remember, you said anything! :)
ReplyDeleteYep, the castor oil in orage juice works...I did it for three out of my four! BUT, sometimes it doesn't(the fourth) and then you just end up ahem...sitting in the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteHope it happens soon!!
I wish I had some encouraging ways or methods here, but with everything I tried here's how it went down for me:
ReplyDelete#1: Jumping Jacks & "lovin", born on her due date
#2: Membranes Stripped, born 6 days late on the day of stripping
#3: Was shown to be a large baby on u/s, so at 37 weeks, this all started: membranes stripped x3, Evening Primrose oil (orally, and "like a tampon"), "lovin", jumping jacks, spicy food etc etc. He was born 6 days late after they broke my water (for heart decels) and his little 9lb 6oz self was born. AND my labor was only 1/2 hour, so clearly...it was a good thing I was already AT the hospital for this!
GOOD LUCK!!!
I heard somewhere that the baby decides. I now believe this.
with me i had gestational diabetes so i had to watch my sugar intake and poke my finger 2 hours after EVERY meal & snack to test my blood sugar level...i am CONVINCED that a sugar overload sent me into labor. the day before my son was born it was my sister's birthday and I WAS DONE watching what i ate and poking my finger...so i didn't, all day, and ate cold stone ice cream, etc! i'm convinced that that is what sent me into labor.
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK!
I didn't try anything to get my kiddos to come out... my son came three days early all on his own and my daughter didn't want to come out so I was induced one day after her due date. ;) I won't tell you my birthing stories. My first birth was awful... but my 2nd only had a minor blip and then went smoothly - she was out in 15 mins of pushing!!! I will cross my fingers that you get the same blessing. ;) So much better than 3 hours of pushing! GOOD LUCK and make sure to give that precious little girl lots of hugs and kisses when she does finlly come!
ReplyDeleteMy sister handed me down a recipe called "When Will the Baby Come Carrot Cake". I had my heart set on delivering baby #1 on his due date. So, when I was one day overdue I was pretty ticked off (I know, it must have been hormones) and I stomped up the stairs saying, "Fine, I'll just pretend I'm not pregnant then." Not much logic here I know. Anyway, I hauled out the recipe and made the cake. Immediately after icing it,at approximately 11 p.m. I sat down and had a piece... and went into labor. Our baby #1 was born at 10:10 the next morning. I can e-mail you the recipe if you like :) The best part was I had something yummy to serve all our meet the baby guests when we came home.
ReplyDeleteOh you poor thing! I hope something works soon!
ReplyDeleteMy son showed his stubborness early on and refused to budge. I even pushed for an our (after being induced) just to have the nurse tell me I had made no progress. :P Finally had to have a C-section! Silly babies. :)
You asked...s-e-x. I had my baby girl 6 hours later. :)
ReplyDeleteWhenever any of us girls were late, my mom would make us one of her homemade lemon meringue pies. We would eat a slice or 2 and be having the baby that night. It worked almost every time.
ReplyDeleteI have been induced both times :( The first I didn't think to try anything on my own. My second I tried everything I had heard of: ate pineapple, drank red raspberry leaf tea, ate spicy food, evening primrose (both ways), walked a million miles, mattress danced, and even pumped (which I have heard truly can work if your body is ready)...the only things I didn't try was Castor Oil and accupressure. Looking back I wish I would have tried both of them, they can't be any worse than getting induced. I have also heard moxibustion works? I'd also love that baby coming cake! I am 4 weeks from delivering my 3rd and plan on evicting her/him on time :)

ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat except I haven't had my membranes stripped yet. I have been jogging (after dark where no one can see the waddle) every other night and I've heard papaya juice is supposed to help.
ReplyDeleteRight now my husband and I are making plans for the weekend so that the baby can interrupt them. Good luck!
With my first, we tried everything! But we tried it WAY too early! He came after being induced at 38 weeks. (He was a big kid 9 lbs 3 oz, that's why I was induced.) Anyway, with my second, I didn't try anything, and he came 4 weeks early.
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law always does the foot massage on her daughters, and that seems to work...
My worst memory from both pregnancy's is going into pre-term labor at 34 and 25 weeks. That pretty much sucked.
My best memory was the first time my hubby felt the boys kick! That was amazing! Oh, and my husband "playing" with my first while I was still preggo. He would grab the baby's heal/foot/knee and shake it a little. The baby would then move it to the other side of my stomach, and they would do it all over again! Everynight! So fun!
There was a pizza place here that made sauce that allegedly contained some ingredient that caused labor to begin, so DH and I ate some the night before my son was born. I don't know if it really helped or it was just a coincidence. I still had to get through 20 hours of labor LOL.
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you're going through. A few weeks before I was due with my third, I started cleaning my house perfect every night just in case I went into labor. My due date came and went, and I still hadn't even had a Braxton Hicks contraction. Hang in there--she'll be here before you know it!
ReplyDeleteI scheduled a c-section! ha! Well, we had other reasons too, but I sure liked having that date and time ready to go! Good luck, I'm excited for you!
ReplyDeletePlease DO NOT do the castor oil. It is VERY high Risk!! It can put your baby in major distress. It makes you have diarrhea and you also can become dehydrated. Please dont do it!!!
ReplyDeleteI wanted my son out a week early so i could have him on mothers day of 08 and I did :).... I walked babies r us and wal-mart for 3 hours next morning I was in labor at 10am
ReplyDeleteI tried everything with my first. Jumped on the trampoline, walked FOREVER, ate spicy food. We even went off roading. The only thing we accomplished with that was popping a tire...which resulted in more walking! I finally went into labor on her due date. I guess she really wasn't coming out until the doctor said she was due!
ReplyDeleteMy other three I scheduled inductions. And with all three, I was having contractions when I went in, but they still put me on petocin to move it along.
My weirdest, and worst pregnancy/labor story was with my last. I went into the doctor to get checked two days before my scheduled induction. The doctor said the head was down and I was dilating nicely. He said he wouldn't be surprised if I went into labor before I got induced. When I got home, the hospital called and said they wanted me to come in the next morning, instead of two days. At dinner that night, I told my husband, "That's weird. She just did a somersault. I didn't think there was enough room for that anymore."
I went in the next morning, got all hooked up, and I was having contractions. They were giving me my epidural (I didn't have one with the first three. I decided to suck it up and have one with the last baby), when the doctor came in to break my water and check me. He said they were going to do an ultrasound because it felt like she was coming out nose first. Turns out, it was actually her heel he felt, not her nose. I guess she didn't make it all the way around when she did her somersault the night before. They tried to do an inversion before the epidural had completely kicked in. But because they had already broken my water, it didn't work. So I had to face my biggest fear and get a c-section. I was terrified, but they doctors were AWESOME and totally put me at ease. Everything turned out just fine!
Hope your baby comes soon and all is safe.
Sorry about the long comment!
I am going to absolutely helpless with what to do to encourage the baby to come. Both my kids were 8 weeks premature so I can tell what to do to keep them in! :-) I am the praying type and will pray for you! I am not going to share my birth stories either . .#1 labor was 45minutes & #2 lasted only a 1/2 hour after being induced. Totally not normal . .but then again neither were my pregnancies! Hang in there and try not to stress.
ReplyDeleteI was a week overdue and I still don't think that anything that I tried helped labor begin. I really think that when the time is right and the little one is ready it will happen.
ReplyDeleteI can remember standing in my daughters room looking around at everything and suddenly bursting into tears. My poor husband walked in and with a worried looked asked, "what is the matter why are you crying?" I explained to him that I felt I had been robbed. The room was set up, everything was ready, bags were packed, our due date had passed and still not baby girl. Luckily, I have a great husband. He wrapped his arms around me and told me everything would be ok. Our little girl would arrive when she was ready not on the date the doctor's had set.
I did everything, went on frequent walks, did squats, ate spicy food, clean the house millions of times and nothing happened.
Finally, the day had come. Of course it happened to be two days before I was scheduled to be induced. I had already prepared myself for our little girl to arrive after the induction process had begun and now things were going to change again!!
I had a regular day and it was beginning to hit evening time. I felt like I had a stomach ach but nothing like what I thought labor pains were going to be like. Of course I didn't say anything to anyone thinking it was just another uncomfortable stage I was going through. A few hours later my husband and I loaded in the car to head out to his Men's league softball game. It wasn't long after the game started that the uncomfortableness was getting a little worse. I began walking around throughout the remainder of the game. Once the game was over I explained to my husband that I wasn't feeling well. Of course he knew that I was in labor but I argued otherwise. I told him to take a shower and we see how things were going after that.
I was adimit that I didn't want to drive the 30 min drive to the hospital to only be sent home. So I called to see what they thought I should do. Let me remind you that the contractions were now every 3-5 min apart and had been for at least 3 hours. They told me to get to the hospital.
Little did I know that I was in labor and then it would still be another 16 1/2 hours before my little Ava blessed us with her presence. I guess after having numerous episode of kidney stones I thought labor pains would be much different than they were. I am not by any means saying labor was a piece of cake. I did however, tell everyone that I would deliver dozens of babies before I wanted to pass any more kidney stones.
So there is my story, hope your little one arrives soon. Unfortunately, when your little one is ready she will bless you with a great gift! HOwever, for planners like us it sure is a pain to wait!

Have a birthday party for your oldest child. I was 37 weeks and my oldest son was going to turn 4, so on the day before his birthday we had a birthday party for him (we did it a day early so my husband could be there). The next morning (my oldests 4th birthday), I woke up with contractions, went to the hospital and had my 3rd baby 30 minutes later. Now I have two boys that were born on the same day.
ReplyDeleteI had my membranes stripped...quite unpleasant! But...7 days later...I was in labor. Good luck girlie!
ReplyDeleteWith my third a friend gave me this tip...a little lovin and then prop your bum up with a pillow and let it sit for a few minutes. Something in the ummm...stuff...works to soften your cervix or something. My baby girl was born within 12 hours of such and experiment....ha ha!
ReplyDeleteWow, you've certain got some stories here. At least you can stay busy with that.
ReplyDeleteLike one of the posts above, my babies had to be dragged out. Haha. They were all very, very late and I finally had to be induced. Whatever works!
I'd be willing to try the castor oil thing if I had it all to do again.
HI, i'm a new follower from the Social Parade on Friday! Yay!!! So glad to find your blog :)
ReplyDeleteSo with my son we seriously had sex and the next morning went into labor. With my daughter unfortunately i had to be induced but. I had a massage before so that I would try to help.
can't wait to read more :)

I looked up Pressure points and had my husband rub the pressure points on my feet and then I pressed the ones on my hands... this site shows the pressure point locations.

(Pineapple, mango, and kiwi contain en enzyme called bromelain that is supposed to work like a prostaglandin, ripening and softening the cervix. That enzyme is not present in canned pineapple, so you'll have to eat it fresh.)
Also, you can buy Evening Primrose Oil and take 2 daily. (can be bought at fry's in the vitamin section)
I had my membranes stripped on a monday, I ate pineapple and watermelon.... starting that day for 3 days... that Tuesday morning I started taking the evening primrose oil, & I drank the 1 Tbsp. of Castor Oil w/ O.J. that tuesday also... I had bad contractions that night, but not bad enough....
I woke up at 5 on Saturday morning with bad contractions and tried to sleep but couldn't... stuck it out as long as I could and went to the hospital at 7:20ish and was 5 cm dialated... so who knows if it worked or if it just was coincidence...
Goodluck!!
Just came across your blog and saw this post. I'm pregnant with my 3rd. With my first 2 kids my sister in law told me about nipple stimulation LOL I thought she was nuts but 2 hours after doing it i was in the hospital and then did it with my second baby same thing within 3 hours i was in the hospital and had her. TIP You have to use lotion or lube and pinch and twist your nipples like in a sucking motion as if you were nursing a baby and do it kinda hard this is the trick LOL continue to do so until you feel contractions(mine started in my back then went to the front of my stomach) felt like Period cramps I got up to walk around and they didn't stop so i did it a little while longer then went to the hospital and we had our babies! Good luck. I am going to do the same thing this time it's yet to fail me or friends I've told PS OKAY this is my secret to lose your post baby tummy it WORKS everyone who has done I've told has thanked me!!! SO go to Bed bath and beyond and get the slim n lift silhouette (Girdle) buy one that will fit tight and wear it when your going home from the hospital and keep it on for 6 weeks only remove to potty and shower. You can see your tummy shrinking day by day it's so awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a great friend tell us some awful news on my due date- in just 5 short weeks, our sweet daughter would not be invited to their wedding. A little peeved (or truly a complete emotional and hormonal wreck) and irritated, I just LOST it. I sobbed in bed for about an hour, explaining to my husband that I just couldn't leave a new baby. Within 5 hours my water broke and we were about to have that little wedding crasher... because she ended up coming to that wedding after all (they changed their minds when they saw how itty bitty, quiet and still she was!). I still really truly think that cryfest 2010 is what made me go into labor... on our 2nd anniversary! And luckily, I was in bed (at my mother-in-laws), atop 2 towels when my water burst all over at 4 a.m.- whoops! :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, NOTHING worked for me except time. Baby was 6 days overdue...!
ReplyDeleteI went into labor after eating my sister-in-law's fried chicken and store-bought chocolate cheesecake. Amazingly, even though I threw all of that up once I went into labor, I can still eat it till this day. I had lots of bouts of false labor before that, so I was amazed when this was the real thing!
ReplyDeleteI was on bed rest with mine because I dilated too early. Once I went off bed rest though they all had to be induced, something about the kind of non-contraction stuff they had me on. SO I would suggest Pitocin! Works every time!
ReplyDeleteBabies will come when they want to come, not any time sooner. There are so many stories of things working, but an equal number, if not more, stories about those same things not working. Just appreciate the time you have to get things ready and relax--your body knows what it's doing.

ReplyDeleteOn Jan 10th last year (1 1/2 weeks past my due date mind you) I told everyone I was going to have the baby that day. Everyone laughed, but 18 hrs later I did!!
ReplyDeleteI walked 2 miles at the gym then climbed 14 flights of stairs then got a pedicure. The lady next to me getter her toes did as well thought I was crazy when I told her I was having the baby that day! I was one determined woman!
That night my water broke around midnight, so I decided to curl my hair~ obviously the most natural thing to do! Sounds so vain but seriously many photos will be taken! Then after some delaying on my part (against my husband's wishes) we headed to the hospital and came out with our healthly 6 lb baby girl Wyndham!
I am so glad you posted this!! I was due yesterday and well....here I sit! I am beyond ready to get this baby girl OUT! So, I think I'm going to go walk the mall today, then go to Babies R Us to exchange some stuff, then maybe I'll sit around and play with my nipples! LOL (I've heard that really works). Best of luck to you!! Let me know if you do something that ends up gettin' ya going!
