Thrift Stores and $1 find!

DIY home decorating

It’s been a LONG time sine I’ve made a trip to Goodwill (maybe 5 months or so)… but I have a secret stash of hidden treasures in a bucket in my garage. And when I say secret, I mean secret! lol. A year ago I was going almost every weekend, and would pick up an item or two each time ( I just had to have it for a dollar)! My husband would always ask, “more junk?” He hates (okay maybe not hates… he secretly loves all the projects I work on) all the clutter my projects create in the garage, and has secretly thrown out a few things. Umm hello!? I was going to use that one day… image

For example… I bought this mirror over a year ago from a Goodwill in Mesa. I had it outside to spray paint, but never got around to it. That night a storm rolled in and we heard a big crash in the middle of the night. I was kind of disappointed the mirror broke, but I was already thinking about what else I could put in the frame. So the next afternoon I went out to pick up the mess and it was already cleaned up (my husband is good like that). I called him and asked him where the frame was and he told me he threw it out since it broke. YOU did what! I was totally annoyed a little bugged and confused. Why would he would throw out a perfectly good frame? My husband is so sweet, so it is hard to stay mad at him very long.  So I forgot about the frame.

Fast forward one year later and one of my friends found the SAME exact mirror at goodwill. I ran over there, picked it up and it now sits happily in my living room. :) The end.

Okay back to the REAL post… sorry I get distracted easy.

So I found this piece awhile back for $1 on 50%  off Saturday. I had NO idea what it was going to be used for, but I loved the detail on the frame and knew it would look amazing painted.

Well with a few coats of white spray paint it looked a MILLION times better. After the paint dried I traced the paper in the diamond and mod podged that on.

Then I distressed the edges a little bit and added a silk flower to the center.

And this my friends is now the base of my picture wall. I know this is a horrible picture taken at night, but I just had to give you one more little peak. I know I’m horrible… but I promise to post it by the weekend. I’m picking up the prints at Costco TODAY! :)

So next time your browsing through Good Will… look for texture, not color! Things can ALWAYS be painted!
