Hi, my name is Callye, and I am visiting from my cookie blog, The Sweet Adventures of SugarBelle. Today I'm going to show you how to make Best Friends Forever Cookies. Thank you so much having me, Jamielyn!
The cutters you will need to make these cookies are:
A large heart cutter
A large, tin crown cutter
To make this a little easier, you should actually begin making the faces for the cookies a few day in advance. I taped a piece of waxed paper to a cookie sheet, and made little round discs to drop onto my cookie. For a detailed tutorial on this, click on the photo below. This is what they look like when they are dry. For more information on skin tone icing colors, head on over to my blog, The Sweet Adventures of SugarBelle and read about the colors I used.
To cut the hearts in half, I knew I would need a long zig zag cutter. Since they don't sell them this way, I modified the crown cutter.
Tin snips work best for this, but if you don't have any, a pair of good scissors and a strong guy work just as well.
When you've made the cutter you are ready to bake.
I colored the dough I was using for this because I thought it made them look extra girly and bright.
I rolled out each color separately and cut out the cookies with my large heart cutter.
Now this is where you need to pay attention. I DID NOT cut the hearts in half BEFORE baking.
I baked them FIRST {turn your cookie sheet upside down if it has edges and give them PLENTY of space} and immediately after I took them out of the oven, I used my zig zag cutter to carefully cut them in half.
After that, don't touch them or mess with them at all!!! Let them cool for a couple of hours, {preferably overnight} so any thin pieces don't break off. Just for the record, keep that in mind when you cut and try not to position the cutter where it might leave a weak protrusion.
After they have cooled completely they can be separated. Be careful. They are slightly fragile before they're iced, and I recommend baking a few extra just in case...
When you are finished you will be left with a cookie that looks like this.
Now you are ready to decorate!
While the flooded cookies are still wet, add faces to the cookie, one on each half.
Let them dry completely after this step. The next day {or at least 8 hours later} they are ready to be personalized.
I began with the eyes, added hair, and then the mouth and fun little messages.
Of course, I made one for each of my very best friends.
I love these girls. We have been through years of laughter, love and even tears, and even though we are far apart,
We're always together in our hearts!
I hope that you make these for your next girl party! They are sweet and they make me smile!
Thank you, Jamielyn, for having me and for being patient with me {those BFF's of mine know all about that, LOL} =)
