Window Cornice

We found most of our blinds on craigslist and from Walmart for our new home, but this is the longest blind we could find for my son's window. Obviously this wasn't going to work, and we didn't want to spend money to get a custom blind made, so I decided to make a cornice. The ones you buy weren't the right size, so we measured the window and headed over to home depot to buy some wood.

I had my handy husband do the drilling, and then it was ready for me to cover.

I used about a 1 inch padding, and stapled it to the board.
Then I used some extra fabric I had from my sons bedding(I had to buy 10 yards when I saw it was only $1 a yard) and stapled that to the board. I had to pull really tight to make sure there was no wrinkles. The corners were a little trickier, but all you need to do is wrap it like a present.
Here is it all nice a finished. I think it turned out pretty good for my first one...as long as no one looks to close! ;)
So there ya go a pretty simple window solution that ended up costing about 20 bucks!

  1. It looks great and makes the window look very tall - I'm sure some decorator person will love that you did it that way!

    Happy New Year!
