So here's how the last 12 hours went down...
It was about 7:30pm when this cute little monkey went to bed. He LOVES feeding himself these days...which is always so fun to clean up. LOL. So that's what I did for the next little while...
Around 8 a friend and I met up at Savers. I found some pretty cute stuff for my boys!
It was about 8:30 when I saw this beat up armoire. I almost walked right past it, but then I took a second look. I stood there for a minute and tried to imagine it all finished. I imagined it painted white, with a little bit of distressing around the edges. Then I thought about painting the knobs black. Next I noticed one mirror was missing and the other one looked completely hideous. Then I thought hmm... I could probably get a thin piece of wood and wrap fabric around it to stick right in.
So after I thought about all that and found out it was $9.99 I decided to buy it! I also had a $3off coupon (you get these when you donate something there), so it ended up costing $7 bucks! Not bad!! So what do you think? Can you see the potential?!
So once I got home around 9:30 I knew I had to get started on these 2 finds (I've been procrastinating) before I even thought about refinishing the new armoire. So I grabbed some kilz spray paint and put on a coat of primer. I love the spray paint primer because it only takes about 5 minutes to put on. So after that I noticed a yummy cookie sitting on the counter from a friend. I checked my e-mail, ate the cookie and headed to bed around 10:30 . I knew I wanted to wake up early to get the first coat of paint on. It's too hot to paint in AZ after 8 in my opinion.
So 6 am rolls around and I hop out of bed. I pull out my paint and paint sprayer and I'm ready to go! After about an hour of trying to get it to work and going crazy spilling paint everywhere I headed to home depot to get a new spray painter.
I didn't have my receipt or the box so I was pretty sure they wouldn't trade it...but to my surprise they did! I LOVE the Home Depot! So 7:30 rolls around and I'm back in business with my new spray painter (notice how the paint is still on the stove....about that....).
At 7:45 I head outside to paint and can already tell its WAY hotter then it was at 6. I get my first coat of paint on in about 5 min. This is why I LOVE my sprayer....when it's working!! We have a love/ hate relationship..
However I'm thinking it's a little to light. This is only the first coat, so it should end up a little darker. I was just hoping for more of a robins eggs blue. Should I go a little darker on the next coat? Since I have to buy a new can of paint and all... (from the paint incident... which we won't talk about right now...)
8 am rolls around and I've already pulled out the chocolate...
All in all I think it was a pretty successful 12 hours (minus the paint incident)!
hahaha I LOve you Jamie-your the Cutest! Can't wait to see how it all turns out-you are SO talented!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see both finished! I ended up buying that nightstand off craigslist I e-mailed you because the lady gave it to me for $7. I need to invest in a sprayer. I have a dresser to redo too.
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute! Hope that paint cleans up.. :/ yikes!
this is a fabulous post!!! I completely feel you!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never find deals like that! Congrats! I've got to try one of those sprayers one day!
ReplyDeleteLove the great finds and the redo...hate when things go crazy! lol!
ReplyDeleteWOW...what great finds.. I really need to look into a paint sprayer ( even with the ol'love /hate going on)
ReplyDeletehave a good day!
i've thought about getting one of those paint sprayers. i should look into it. see if the price is worth it. hmm...
ReplyDeletei'm re-doing some things for the nursery next week so it's probably a good idea. Home Depot here i come!
i love the way it turned out so far!
and yes, if it were me, i would go a shade darker. it'll make more of a statement :)
I wish we had a Saver store around here. All the furniture at our Goodwill is crazy expensive. Weird huh?! I guess I need to start hitting up garage sales when it gets cool here in TX!!! We're melting too!
ReplyDeleteWOW 7$?? That is great :) And I would go a little darker too if it were me. Can't wait to see it all finished!

ReplyDeleteGirl, you do more in twelve hours that includes sleeping than I do in twelve hours of being completely awake! ;)
ReplyDeletegosh.. I need a paint sprayer. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI have major paint sprayer envy! Love your neat finds! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the blog makeover. :) I still have a furniture freebie that I picked up roadside that needs some painting. I'm inspired. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Jamie, I love this story. Oh to have your energy. . . : ) I need to paint a wooden mirror, is spray paint the best option?
ReplyDeleteI think I have heard that you can add some craft paint to your paint can to darken it up. That would be cheaper than buying a new can of paint.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but laugh about the paint predicament. What else can you do? I can imagine my husband's disapproving look once he saw it! LOL. The desk looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the finished product! WHERE do you get all this inspiration? I wish I could look at something and see what you see!
ReplyDeletehi, i absolutely love your blog... you have inspired me to redo my kitchen table and I am in the sanding process. Being new at this I am wondering if you would mind telling me how much sanding you do on something like a table... can I just do a very ligth sand and then prime? Anyhow, thanks again I love your blog!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are freakin' CRAZY! I love your energy, and your craftiness. You got vision girl
