sneak peak into the nursery!

making your own bumper

So have you ever worked on a project that seemed to be never-ending?!? And may I add a project where everything seemed to go wrong! I started working on these baby bumpers about 2 months ago, and I’m proud to say I am FINALLY finished!! My bedroom floor is finally free of fabric scraps… my husband is probably happy about that! lol. I swear these bumpers literally took over my life (night-life) anyways the last few weeks. I helped my MIL make my son’s bumpers, but to be honest she did pretty much all of the sewing. I just cut. So I really didn’t know what I was doing… which is why my seam ripper became my best friend. I swear I spent more time ripping things out, than I did sewing. Man! And to make things worse, after I thought I was completed with the bumpers last weekend I realized the ties were ALL the wrong color! You would think I would have figured this out BEFORE I sewed them all… but it took me finishing them and putting them in the crib to I realize I hated them!! Never try to save money and use fabric you already have (on BIG projects at least)…especially when satin only costs $2.99 a yard!

ties for baby bumper My husband tried to talk me out of sewing all new ties, because it took forever to sew them all the first time around… but luckily my friend talked me back into re-sewing them. lol. Thank goodness…they look so MUCH better now! Thanks so much Brit for helping me during nap time! I LOVE YOU! It’s so much more fun to sew with friends, and it goes by so much quicker!

After I finished pressing them that night and re-sewing all the ties back into the bumper I was FINALLY done! I started trimming all the last little strings and flipped them right side out to admire all my hard work. They looked BEAUTIFUL… until I saw this dang hole! Oh my goodness I wanted to cry… and quite frankly I’m surprised I didn’t start crying. If only the hole didn’t have to be on the very FRONT of the bumper it would be fine. I’m still debating how to fix it. Any ideas?!? I’m thinking the best way is to use heat n’ bond and patch it up…but what do you think? Luckily it’s pretty small… but you can still see it! :( :(

DSC03501 So anyways after all that trouble I am completely in love with my bumpers and am SO glad I ended up making them! I’ll show you them completely finished once the bed is finished.

chandelier and chandelier cover

Remember the chandelier I found at Goodwill? My husband was able to get it working so I sewed a chandelier cover and he hung it up! I LOVE it! I can’t believe that only cost me about $15 bucks total!

painted white armoire And remember this Armoire I found at Savers for $10? It’s ALMOST finished! It’s all painted I just need to put the fabric up in the windows. It’s amazing what a little sanding and paint can do to a piece of furniture!

lime green fabric flower

Last night I was able to make a few fabric flowers with some scrap fabric as well. I feel SO relieved to have the bumpers done! I can finally work on some more fun projects for her. There’s a million projects I want to finish, but the main things I want to make are a quilt, pillow, bow holder, and finish decorating her room. Wish me luck! Only about 4 more weeks… unless she decides to come sooner!

  4. The fabrics you used are gorgeous! Im no sewing expert myself, so this may sound juvenile, but is there any way to maybe just cover it up with an embellishment? Like one of your cute fabric flowers???
    Love your blog, btw!

  13. The room is so cute! I would just put a flower over it. I would patch it first to keep the whole from getting bigger. And if it looks good enough you may not have to embellish. It might even be cuter with an embellishment!
